PGL Travel is one of the UK’s leading providers of adventure and educational holidays. Founded in 1957, PGL was named after "Peter Gordon Lawrence", the founder of the company. While some children jokingly refer to it as "Parents Get Lost," reflecting its focus on fun, independent trips for young people, the brand has grown significantly since.

Today, PGL specialises in:

  • School Trips – including residential stays, activity camps, and curriculum-linked educational experiences.
  • Adventure Holidays for Families & Children – offering exciting outdoor activities and short breaks in safe, fully equipped centres.
  • Group Travel – for youth groups, sports teams, scouts/guides, and more.
  • International Language & Cultural Experiences – for students learning English or seeking cultural exchange opportunities.

Operating across the UK and Europe, PGL runs multiple centres and brands, each designed to offer enriching, active, and confidence-building experiences for children, teens, families, and schools alike.

Their mission is to inspire young people through adventure, helping them build new skills, make friends, and create lasting memories — all in a safe and supportive environment. Our mission: to capture all the above in a suite of modern and conversion-optimised websites and landing experiences.

The task in hand.

The task in hand.

The task initially focussed on PGL.au, the Australian arm of PGL. The site was in need of a complete rebrand, redesign and build, focussing on user journey and conversion, as well as harnessing the excitement of the brand. We then moved onto the UK side of the business, not to be outshone by their antipodean colleagues, the schools side of the business required the same treatment, with a greater focus on the different audiences and many sites around the UK. Next came the Adventure holidays site which required a full overhaul and a different focus again, this time introducing a bespoke booking system which integrated with the front end. Finally, (to date at least!) PGL Beyond is the corporate information site to showcase all brands together and solidify PGL as a brand for all needs. The new site needed to be dynamic and convey each brand under one umbrella

From the very beginning, a consultative and cooperative approach was required, we were more than a supplier, we were part of the team… and deadlines were tight!

Across all projects, working with both the branding team and IT, we developed, not only a new look and feel, but dynamic websites that supported the technical requirements of the business.

Some key elements delivered were:

  • Interface to allow users to select their audience type, serving specific targeted content based on their choice
  • Build of bespoke slider elements, bespoke activity and programme sliders and flip boxes with a supporting database to link all the locations, activities and programmes together in the backend
  • Custom built dynamic content tailored to offer a simple and intuitive user experience
  • Updated eCommerce functionality to improve conversion and automate backend systems using APIs to reduce the volume of manual back‐office processing
  • Development of a bespoke booking plugin, integrating with WooCommerce, and a custom solution that posted the booking data into PGL booking systems

Web Wonderland also provides ongoing support and maintenance for all the PGL sites and have delivered a number of plugin development projects to enhance functionality of the site. We have developed a file sharing solution, a bespoke contact form abandonment targeting solution and much more for PGL.

Our approach combined brand-led design with data-driven UX to improve clarity, simplify navigation, and guide users through complex journeys with ease. We developed bespoke functionality tailored to the needs of each site, ensuring content is easy to find, trips are easy to compare, and bookings are easier than ever The results? Strong improvements in site speed, usability, and, most importantly, conversion performance. Together with PGL, we’ve built a digital experience that not only looks great, but works brilliantly for their customers and internal teams alike
